~ Fleur Conkling Heyliger
Not flesh of my flesh
Nor bone of my bone,
But still miraculously My own.
Never forget
For a single minute:
You didn't grow
under my heart
But in it.

A Home Study is an investigation that is used to verify if you are suitable to be an adoptive parent. I am licensed to perform home studies for families residing in the state of Florida. They are valid for one year and can be easily updated. Our state adoption laws require a home study for all domestic and international adoptions. This investigation is your very first step in the adoption process.

The purpose of a home study is to determine if you have a genuine desire to be a parent, the emotional and financial resources to raise a child, and a stable home environment. The home study is an educational experience that requires your full participation, and my experience will assure that it is not time-consuming or painful. Our home study meetings will be done in the comfort and privacy of your home.

I will be your partner throughout this process, assisting you in obtaining all the necessary documentation and answering any questions you may have. If there are any changes to the current requirements within the state of Florida, U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Services or the child's country of birth, I promise to be kept informed of these changes and, in turn, inform you of them as well. With my experience, I understand these requirements and will be there for you every step of the way. A home study consists of meeting with me in your home to determine your ability, as either an individual or couple, to parent an adopted child. You will be asked to share information about many aspects of your personal life. I will also interview you regarding your ideas and feelings about parenting and adoption.

A complete report will be prepared following our completion of the interviews as well as the completion and submission of all the required documents. I will help prepare you for your new role as adoptive parents by providing emotional support and adoption resources, and will continue to be available throughout the rest of the adoption experience. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call.
